Now that fall has arrived in North Georgia, the weather is turning a new leaf.
The region is settling into a pattern of dry conditions, low humidity and comfortable temperatures pretty typical of the first few weeks of autumn, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Friday will continue in this trend, which Monahan expects to stick around for at least another week.
“You know what goes well with Friday and the weekend? Sunshine,” Monahan said. “It just fits together, and we’re going to have a lot of it over the next few days.”
Friday is off to a chilly start, with 40s in the mountains and 50s in metro Atlanta to begin the day. Monahan said temperatures will rise into the mid-70s Friday afternoon. Atlanta’s projected high is 75 degrees, slightly higher than Thursday’s top temperature of 73.
“The great thing about these early fall days: They can be pretty cool in the morning, but because the air is dry, we heat up and warm up pretty steadily,” Monahan said.
Temperatures will start to climb back into 80s by the weekend, he said. Early next week, Monahan expects Atlanta to reach the mid-80s for highs. Humidity remains low, however.
“It’s going to creep up Sunday and Monday,” he said. “Nothing like that summertime mugginess, just a little bit more humid as we go into early next week.”
One element of the forecast will stay consistent, and that’s the low rain chances. Monahan does not expect rain will reenter the forecast for at least the next 10 days.

Volume is building, but there are no early delays for the start of the Friday morning drive, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Speed-limit conditions were reported on all metro Atlanta interstates at 6:30 a.m.
“Right now it’s looking good, but of course later on this afternoon things will slow down around 4:30-5 p.m., just because of those typical afternoon delays,” traffic reporter Heather Catlin said.
