One week ago, temperatures were down in the 50s for a chilly Friday morning in metro Atlanta.

Since then, humidity and cloud cover have steadily increased across the region and resulted in a bump in temperatures. Atlanta was already in the 70s before sunrise Friday, a nearly 20-degree difference from the fall-like weather from the week before.

The warmer weather is not the only difference. According to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan, Friday could finally end North Georgia’s dry streak.

“Just a stray shower possible for today and tomorrow,” Monahan said. “That story will change Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as rain returns to our forecast.”

Rain is unlikely Friday, but it is possible, he said. Temperatures are headed for the low to mid-80s this afternoon. Atlanta’s projected high is 83, according to Channel 2.

Monahan expects it will still be in the 80s out at The Battery ahead of tonight’s Braves game against the New York Mets. Temperatures should drop into the upper 70s by 9 p.m., and Monahan said it will stay mainly dry throughout the game.

A 10% chance of rain in Channel 2′s Friday forecast increases to 20% Saturday, when the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at Sanford Stadium in Athens. Monahan said college football fans should expect warm and muggy weather with highs in the low 80s at kickoff.

“A 20% chance of rain, that is mainly dry,” he said. “If you forget to take the umbrella with you, it should not be a big deal.”

Sunday should be the wettest day of the weekend with a 40% chance of showers, according to Monahan. Rain chances really ramp up at the start of next week.

“That’s going to affect all of us,” he said. “More rain as we go into the weekend.”

While there are no major delays on the roads at the start of the Friday morning commute, there are a few trouble spots to watch at 6:30 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

In Gwinnett County, a crash on I-85 South at Ga. 317 was blocking multiple left lanes. Until it clears, commuters can take Satellite Boulevard out of Suwanee, the Traffic Center reported.

A crash in Buckhead has lanes blocked on Peachtree Road at West Paces Ferry Road, causing only slight delays.

But the ride out of the northwest suburbs is untroubled. According to the Traffic Center, conditions are “so far, so good” on I-575 and I-75 out of Cherokee and Cobb counties.
