Police rescued a small dog from a hot car at Walt Disney World earlier this week after the owner apparently left the animal there for hours while visiting the theme park, according to reports.

The pet’s owner, who was not identified, was eventually located inside Hollywood Studios and quickly returned to the car and left the premises, People magazine reported citing the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

No charges were filed.

The dog — believed to be a Maltese — was discovered about 5 p.m. Monday, according to WPLG reporter Parker Branton, who was the first to share the story via Twitter.

At the time, another park visitor happened to be sitting in the parking lot, where she heard a dog barking.

The car was locked but a parking receipt indicated the vehicle had been there since 11:48 a.m., People reported.

The woman called authorities and waited for help to arrive.

About an hour later, sheriff’s officials and first responders from the Reedy Creek Fire Department broke into the car and immediately gave the dog a small bucket of water, photos from the scene show.

Temperatures in Orlando on Monday reached 92 degrees, according to Accuweather.

Authorities said the dog was lucky to be alive.
