A dog that was filmed getting hit on the balcony of a Gwinnett County apartment complex is “receiving lots of TLC,” officials said Friday.

The 18-month-old female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has entered foster care with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office through the agency’s Jail Dogs program, according to authorities.

Through the program, the dog will be given care and obedience training by a carefully selected inmate. The dog is not available for adoption, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Duluth Police Department arrested the dog’s owner, 30-year-old Ashten Nicole Goeckel, on Aug. 11 on charges of animal cruelty. The woman was taken into custody after an employee at her apartment complex showed officers a video of Goeckel holding the dog by the neck and swinging it into a brick wall.

The dog did not suffer severe injuries.

Goeckel was booked into Gwinnett County Jail and released the same day on $1,300 bond.
