Chaos erupted in the streets of Clayton County on Wednesday evening when the occupants of two vehicles opened fire at each other in a residential neighborhood.
When the dust settled, four people had been arrested ― one of whom had been shot — shell casings littered the ground and the two cars were riddled with bullet holes, according to Clayton police. One suspect remains still at large.
Clayton police responded around 7:10 p.m. to the intersection of Cardinal Road and Thrasher Road for a report of a drive-by shooting, which was later upgraded to a person shot call. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a Hyundai in the street and a Charger that had crashed in a yard, police said.
Officers obtained the descriptions of five suspects who ran from the scene, including 20-year-old Jaheim Ormil, who police said was located in the nearby woods. Video of the incident was released Friday.
“Come out with your hands up!” police shouted, with their guns drawn, before Ormil exited the wood line and was taken into custody. Officers allegedly found a gun hidden in the woods and the keys to the Charger in his possession.
Soon after, two more suspects, Kadeem Abdullah, 31, and Kenyetta Cosby, 23, were arrested with the help of other law enforcement agencies. The person shot, 19-year-old Richard Howell, was apprehended at a hospital after police said he was involved in the incident.
According to an investigation, one vehicle was following the other and those inside were exchanging gunfire. The Hyundai then hit the back of the Charger, which went off the road and slammed into a tree.
Police said a motive is unclear at this time, but drugs were found at the scene.
The four suspects were all booked into the Clayton jail on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute and hit-and-run, police said.
An investigation is ongoing.
