Police have released footage showing multiple people running away from an apartment complex where a Marietta teenager was shot to death during a large party earlier this year.
Grayson Green, 17, was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Walton Village apartments in the 1600 block of Roberta Drive on May 21, Marietta police said. Nearly four months later, authorities are still trying to identify a suspect and hope the newly released footage gets witnesses talking.
According to investigators, teens and young adults were at the complex for an unsanctioned party after leaving an Airbnb home. Gunshots interrupted the late-night shindig.
The footage, which overlooks a hallway of one of the apartment buildings, seems to show multiple people walking forward, pausing, then suddenly turning around and sprinting away.
“Despite knowing multiple people witnessed the shooting, we have been unable to get anyone to come forward and help positively identify the shooter,” police said. “The video shows numerous young adults leaving the area immediately after the conflict started. Based upon the location of the camera, investigators believe the partygoers seen in this footage witnessed some or all of the incident.”
In June, officials released surveillance footage from a nearby parking lot and a snippet from one of the responding officers’ body camera videos. The video showed about 20 people running to the complex’s overflow parking lot moments after the shots were fired. They piled into five vehicles, which could be seen speeding out of the lot moments later.
“We are calling on parents to talk with their children and anyone that was there and/or has information regarding the shooting death of Grayson Green to please have the courage to reach out to us,” police previously said.
Crime Stoppers of Atlanta offered a $2,000 reward in the wake of the shooting, which was matched by Walton Village and Walton Communities, the apartment complex’s property management company. By early August, both organizations collaborated to increase the reward to $10,000.
