A driver was ejected from their vehicle when they lost control and hit a median wall on I-285 West in DeKalb County early Wednesday.

All westbound lanes were blocked starting just before 5 a.m. as Dunwoody police investigated and road workers cleared the scene — for the second time this week. Another crash Tuesday brought traffic to a halt in the same busy stretch of interstate.

After the driver was ejected, their empty sedan then came to a rest in the center lanes, where it was struck by a small SUV, police said. That driver was not injured, but the sedan’s driver was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

All lanes reopened by 6:30 a.m., but there were heavy delays through Dunwoody for much of the morning rush.

On Tuesday morning, the same stretch of I-285 West was shut down for at least two hours after a tractor-trailer driver overcorrected while trying to avoid an abandoned vehicle. The truck ended up hitting the vehicle as well as the median wall. No one was injured in that wreck.

Wednesday’s crash was about a mile west of Tuesday’s, police said.
