Thursday will be a great day for a dunk in the pool with intense heat and limited rain chances in metro Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Temperatures are headed for a high of 93 degrees in the city, but it will feel even hotter with high humidity. For many students, Thursday will also be the final day of summer vacation before school is back in session.
“Summer vacation is over, summertime is not over, and it’s going to continue to feel like it over those first few weeks of school,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “The heat is going to be pretty intense over the next couple of weeks.”
The first day of fall is still 56 days away.
Areas in the mountains and in the northern Atlanta suburbs could get some relief from the heat Thursday in the way of afternoon storms. Rain activity should be isolated with just a 30% chance of development after lunchtime, Monahan said.
Neighborhoods south of the city should stay pretty dry, he said, any storms that pop up should fall apart quickly heading toward sunset.
For the morning drive, Thursday is starting dry and warm with temperatures in the mid-70s in Atlanta. Areas near Eatonton are waking up to numbers already in the 80s, Monahan said.
“Just as hot today as it was yesterday,” he said. “It will feel like between 95 and 100 with the humidity. Our change: A little bit of rain is possible today. Twelve out of our 14 daylight hours will be dry.”
Monahan is expecting slightly more rain Friday with a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures should come down a bit for the weekend, he said, but rain chances will increase.
Everyone will get a chance at rain Saturday and Sunday, but the highest rainfall accumulations will be in the mountains and on the Northside of Atlanta, according to the latest forecast.
