Atlanta police this weekend arrested a Union City teenager in connection with a fatal shooting last month in the city’s Adamsville neighborhood.

Mekhi Antonio McKinney, 18, was taken into custody Saturday on charges of murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

The charges stem from an April 8 shooting when police went to a home in the 200 block of Argus Circle and found 24-year-old Qwantavius Nigee Harris lying in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the midsection. The critically injured victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to police.

Police on Wednesday released body camera footage of McKinney’s arrest outside a grocery store.

Zone 4 FIT Unit Arrest Suspect Wanted for April 8 Murder on Argus Cir. NW It’s been a little over a month since the homicide on Argus Circle occurred and APD homicide detective K. Responding officers located a male with a gunshot wound to his midsection laying in the front yard and he was transported to Grady Hospital in critical condition. Despite lifesaving attempts, he succumbed to his injuries. The decedent was identified as, Qwantavius Nigee Harris. The Aggravated Assault Unit and the Homicide Unit simultaneously responded to the crime scene and upon the expiration of the decedent, Homicide took the primary responsibility. The scene was processed by Crime Scene Technicians. Representatives from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office were notified and responded to the scene. Detective K. Franklin will lead the investigation. Warrant Update: On Monday, April 25, 2022, Detective Kindu Franklin was able to establish probable cause and secure arrest warrants for Mekhi McKinney (9/2003) for the charge of Felony – Murder (16-5-1), Aggravated Assault (16-5-21), and Armed Robbery (16-8-41).

Detective Kindu Franklin, the lead investigator on the case, established probable cause and secured warrants for McKinney’s arrest April 25, police said.

Fugitive investigators in southwest Atlanta detained McKinney on Saturday and homicide detectives questioned him, according to police. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail without incident following the interview.

McKinney remained jailed there without bond Wednesday, according to online booking records.
