A fugitive who was wanted for an unprovoked attack at a New York City subway station last month was taken into custody in Atlanta on Tuesday, authorities said.
Rodlin Gravesande had been on the run since she allegedly threw an unknown substance into a woman’s face at a Brooklyn station Dec. 2. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition after the attack caused first- and second-degree burns to her face, police said.
WABC reported that the victim was a 21-year-old healthcare worker who was on her way to work when Gravesande confronted her and threw the unknown liquid about 1:10 a.m.
“Literally this was the most horrid thing I’ve ever been through, it was really burning a lot. So I ran to my job. That’s all I was thinking about doing,” the unidentified victim told the news station. “The first thing that went through my mind, I went to obvious healthcare mode, it wasn’t really much of, ‘Oh, I need to get revenge on this lady,’ it’s more, ‘I need to seek medical help immediately because I don’t know what this is.’”
Police said Gravesande and the victim had no prior relationship and the attack appeared to be unprovoked.
A month after the incident, a Fulton County SWAT unit and the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task force tracked the suspect to a home in southeast Atlanta, where she was visiting family members, police said. She was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities added that Gravesande had no permanent address and was listed as “residentially challenged.”
She is facing several charges, including assault with the intent to cause serious physical injury, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing, police said.
