A man was found dead from a gunshot wound earlier this week on the floor of a self-serve car wash bay in Marietta, authorities said.

Marietta police identified the victim Wednesday as 59-year-old Daniel Lanard Richardson Jr. and asked the public for help gathering information about the incident.

According to police, the investigation began around 8 p.m. Monday when a 911 caller reported a man lying on the ground in a car wash bay at 1250 Bellemeade Drive in Marietta. The caller said the man did not seem to be moving and might need medical attention.

Multiple agencies responded to the car wash and confirmed the man had been shot, police said. Emergency medical personnel declared Richardson dead at the scene.

The car wash where Richardson was found stands alone on its own property but is in a busy commercial area off Powder Springs Street. Several businesses are nearby, including auto parts stores, fast food restaurants and a grocery store.

Police are asking anyone with information about Richardson or the circumstances around his death to contact them. Tips can also be shared anonymously through Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta or Marietta’s new tip411 app.
