A man was arrested a day after a 19-year-old was fatally shot at a troubled southwest Atlanta apartment complex near a park late Thursday, police said.

Atlanta officers were called at about 9:45 p.m. about a person shot at the City Views at Rosa Burney Park complex on Richardson Street. The apartments are across the street from the park.

When police arrived, they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds, officials said in a statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene and identified as Demetrius Martin by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The suspect, identified by police as 42-year-old Travis Williams, was arrested Friday. He is facing charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities have not shared any other details about what sparked the shooting.

The City Views complex, which spans a large portion of the block and includes several addresses, is among 272 of the metro area’s persistently dangerous complexes, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s “Dangerous Dwellings” investigation that looked into serious crimes, lax maintenance and other hazards in Atlanta neighborhoods.

From 2017 through July 8, 2023, police reported 59 crimes at the complex, including 14 aggravated assaults, two robberies and two rapes.

In July 2022, Atlanta announced that the complex was on a list of properties to be targeted for crackdowns by city offices and Fulton County prosecutors because of chronic crime and condition problems, but in January 2023 the city dropped the complex from its list.
