A man arrested Tuesday on a Clayton County warrant is also facing charges in the shooting of a 34-year-old man discovered dead outside a DeKalb County strip mall.

Richard Hardon, 23, was taken into custody by Clayton deputies on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault, according to jail records. He has been identified as a suspect in the March 2 death of Santell Wood, a DeKalb police spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.

Wood was discovered shot on a sidewalk outside the Austin Plaza on Glenwood Road by another man walking to work, police said. He was dead when officers arrived shortly after 4 a.m., Sgt. B. Danner told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution from the scene.

Danner said no one called to report the shooting. Wood was considered a John Doe before being identified by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hardon, who is from Stone Mountain, had been wanted in Clayton County since Jan. 20. In addition to the aggravated assault charge, he is being held in the Clayton jail on two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon related to his arrest.

Details about the aggravated assault case were not immediately available.

Hardon will face a charge of murder in DeKalb County, according to police.
