A man was arrested after a suspected road rage incident at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in which the suspect allegedly sideswiped another driver’s car and fired several shots at them, authorities said.

According to Atlanta police, officers were called to the airport’s South Terminal after getting reports of gunfire just before 2 p.m. Wednesday. The victim met the officers at the scene and explained that the incident took place just after they dropped off a client at the terminal’s lower level, police said.

The victim said the other driver became irate as they both tried to leave the airport. In that area, several lanes are quickly merged into one before traffic is directed toward the interstate.

The suspect, a 29-year-old man, hit the victim’s car, then fired shots and sped away, police said. The victim reported minor injuries along with damage to his vehicle, according to police.

After gathering information at the airport, police canvassed areas nearby and found the suspect at a truck repair shop on Moreland Avenue near Fort Gillem, about eight miles from the site of the shooting.

Police said charges against the suspect are forthcoming but did not share further information about the arrest, including the man’s name.
