A man who pointed a shotgun at a Baldwin County deputy was shot and killed Saturday, the GBI said.

A deputy responded to a domestic dispute at Union Hill Church Road after multiple 911 calls were made from people at the home, according to the GBI. Inside the home, the agency said, the deputy and other occupants were approached by 77-year-old Tommie Gilmore with a shotgun.

The deputy told Gilmore to drop the weapon, but the GBI said he then pointed the gun at the deputy. The deputy then shot Gilmore, according to the GBI.

Gilmore, who lived at the Baldwin County home, was taken to Atrium Health Navicent Hospital in Milledgeville, where he later died, the agency said. No officers were injured in the incident.

The GBI was requested to assist with the officer-involved shooting, the 83rd such investigation the state agency has handled this year. The agency’s medical examiner will also conduct an autopsy on Gilmore.

There were 68 police-involved shooting across the state by this time last year.
