DeKalb County police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in a hit-and-run who then hit an officer’s hand while fleeing, the department said on social media.

The officer was investigating a minor collision around 5:40 p.m. Sunday when he spotted a vehicle that matched the suspect’s behind a business in the 2700 block of Wesley Chapel Road, DeKalb police said. The officer ordered the driver to turn off the vehicle and exit, but the suspect fled the scene instead and struck the officer’s hand in the process, according to police.

“Thankfully, the officer was not injured,” police said.

In the initial incident, the suspect allegedly backed into another vehicle and caused minor damage, but no one was injured, police said.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or vehicle is asked to contact DeKalb police’s homicide assault unit at 770-724-7850.
