Cedric Goodwin was involved in a June 2020 shootout that left one man dead, police said.

A Clayton County man charged with murder remained a fugitive for more than a year before he was arrested in Atlanta this month.

Cedric Goodwin, 35, of Riverdale, was involved in a shootout June 17, 2020, that left one man dead, according to Atlanta police. On Oct. 12, nearly 16 months after the shooting, Goodwin was arrested at a home on Greenleaf Circle in southwest Atlanta.

Jail records show that Goodwin was booked into the Fulton County Jail on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as well as one count each of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Goodwin remains in jail without bond.

He was among several men who went to the apartment of another man that evening in June 2020 to confront him about a pit bull that scratched a little girl, police said. During the encounter, authorities said Goodwin and other members of his group pulled out guns and that the other man pulled out his own gun, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Two members of Goodwin’s group were hit, according to police. One man, Anthony Brewer, died. A second man, Isaiah Johnson, was taken to the hospital and later arrested. Another member of the group, Fredrick Goodwin, was arrested later.

At the time, police obtained a murder warrant for Cedric Goodwin but he could not be found.

The arrest removes Goodwin from the APD’s Most Wanted list, the department said on social media.

“Thank you to our Fugitive Unit as well as U.S. marshals for helping us take this dangerous individual off the streets,” Atlanta police said.
