The husband of a Fulton County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with two counts of murder after the woman and her brother were found shot dead Wednesday night.

Jaquavia Jackson, husband of Shakeema Brown Jackson, was arrested Friday on several counts related to the double homicide, Newton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Caitlin Jett said. Jaquavia Jackson has been booked into the Newton County Jail on two counts each of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The shooting took place sometime before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in Covington, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. At the scene, deputies found the bodies of Shakeema Jackson and her brother, Levoy Brown.

Jackson had been a member of the sheriff’s office since 2018 but had only been serving as a deputy for a little more than a month.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the metro Atlanta area have expressed condolences for the Fulton sheriff’s office in the wake of Jackson’s death.

No further details about the circumstances of the shooting have been released. Anyone with information is asked to contact Newton sheriff’s Investigator Joshua Hicks at 678-625-1455 or jhicks@newtonsheriffga.org.
