A man who pulled a gun and pointed it at Dunwoody police officers at a shopping center near Perimeter Mall was taken into custody after officers opened fire on him, officials confirmed.

No injuries were reported in the Thursday afternoon shooting, Dunwoody police said. The man was later identified as 23-year-old Khalil Thomas.

Officers were called to the Perimeter Square shopping center on Perimeter Center West for “trouble unknown.” When officers made contact with Thomas, who was the subject of the 911 call, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at them, police said. The officers both fired their weapons at Thomas but missed, police said.

They were able to arrest the man at the scene without further incident, according to police. Thomas is facing four counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and one count each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The Dunwoody Police Department has asked the Sandy Springs Police Department to conduct an independent review of the incident.
