An alleged member of the Latin Kings gang has been arrested in Paulding County after he was spotted by undercover deputies and followed to the scene of a drug transaction, according to the sheriff’s office.

Robert Lewis Anderson, 41, of Buchanan, was already a wanted felon when he was stopped in his car by a SWAT unit, sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Ashley Henson said in a news release. Anderson was also the subject of a Blue Alert, a designation in a person’s criminal history that reflects “repeated violent tendencies toward law enforcement.”

“During the traffic stop, Anderson did not comply with deputies and attempted to destroy a bag of suspected methamphetamine while he was being given lawful commands to exit the vehicle,” Henson said.

Anderson has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, tampering with evidence, obstruction, and violating both his parole and probation out of Haralson County. He is being held in the Paulding County Jail without bond.

The takedown began when undercover deputies spotted Anderson at a store in Dallas, Henson said. They recognized Anderson thanks to their work with the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force. They followed him and another person as they drove from the store to another location where they knew drugs were being sold, Henson said. There, they saw Anderson perform a hand-to-hand drug transaction, according to Henson.

After witnessing the transaction, the undercover deputies called in the SWAT unit to make a traffic stop, Henson said.

In a booking photo from the Paulding jail, Anderson has a black eye and bruises on his face, but the sheriff’s office did not say if his injuries were sustained during his arrest.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with information to call the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force at 770-646-9175 or send an anonymous tip via the free Paulding sheriff mobile app.
