A 78-year-old woman was killed in a midnight fire that engulfed her northwest Atlanta home Sunday.

The woman was identified by her family as Mamie Farley, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The fire was reported shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of 7th Street, Atlanta fire officials told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The home sits in the Carey Park neighborhood between Hightower Road and James Jackson Parkway.

“A female patient was rescued from the one story home. At the time, she had a pulse,” the fire department said. She was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital

Fire crews were battling the enormous blaze until 7 a.m., authorities said. Nothing but a charred frame was left of one side of the home. Smoke was still rising from the rubble throughout the morning.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the department said. No other information has been released.
