Clarkston police have asked for help identifying a man who was shot before his body was found in a brush fire in DeKalb County last week.

Though authorities have already arrested three suspects after the body was located Thursday, the victim remains unidentified, police said in a statement.

DeKalb firefighters were called to a blaze in a wooded area between two apartment complexes on Brockett Road just after midnight, police said. Once firefighters put out the flames, they found the body of a man who appeared to have been shot.

The victim was between 17 and 25 years old, about 5 feet tall and between 95 and 100 pounds, police said. He had a chipped front tooth, wore diamond studs in his ears and a gold stud in his nose. He also wore a chain with a dog tag inscribed with the Bible verse Joshua 9:1, police said.

Clarkston police spokesman Sgt. Andrew Walker said the three suspects were quickly tracked down and taken into custody after a car chase, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The suspects are Tahj George Rankine, Brian Rice and a minor whose name was not released, Channel 2 reported. Rankine has an extensive criminal history in DeKalb, having been arrested several times in recent years on charges such as battery, criminal damage to property and fleeing from police for a felony offense, jail records show.

Rankine and Rice were both booked into the DeKalb jail on counts of malice murder and concealing the death of another.

Anyone with information about the victim’s identity is asked to call Detective Greg Feltman at 678-431-1472.
