Sheriff's deputies in Florida are reminding people to be vigilant after a brazen thief snuck over to a woman's car as she paid at a gas pump last month and snatched her purse from the vehicle.
The theft was caught on a surveillance camera at the Sun Gas Chevron station in Parkland. Video released by deputies Monday showed the theft took less than 20 seconds.
"It's a common crime, but if you blink, you could miss it," Broward County sheriff's deputies said in a news release.
Authorities have not identified suspects in the case, which happened September 26.
According to deputies, two men stopped a silver Toyota Camry at a gas pump across from the victim's SUV. As the woman paid for gas, she turned her back on her SUV. While she was distracted, one of the men crouched between the two vehicles, opened up her driver's-side door and grabbed her handbag.
The thieves were gone in seconds.
"Always lock your doors!" deputies wrote on Twitter. "This can happen to anyone."
Deputies are investigating the case.
