Several agencies are looking for a man who allegedly carjacked an 81-year-old woman Sunday in Walton County and threw her in the trunk of her own car.
Georgia State Patrol officers, Walton and Barrow deputies and Winder police officers were looking for John Calhoun early Monday after he allegedly kidnapped the woman from her home and crashed her car behind a movie theater, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Investigators were able to track the woman’s cellphone to find her.
When they spotted her vehicle, the driver sped away, and a chase ensued, Channel 2 reported. Calhoun, 29, crashed the woman’s car and escaped, authorities said.
They searched for him near Exchange Boulevard in Bethlehem but could not find him.
The woman is believed to be in good health, Channel 2 reported.
“She seemed to be in reasonably good health, had some abrasions on the back of her head I assume from being in the trunk of the car,” Sheriff Joe Chapman told the television station.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Investigators believe Calhoun did not act alone and that he may be involved in a string of car break-ins in the area.
“We do believe that there’s a strong potential that these individuals are armed and dangerous,” Georgia Bureau of Investigations spokesman Michael Ayers told Channel 2.
Investigators said the woman does not remember the incident.
Police are asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Calhoun to call 911.
