A 68-year-old Ellijay man in a Santa hat was arrested Tuesday after showing up to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities said Jimmy Lee Bowling traveled from Gilmer County to southern Cherokee to meet the teenager, who was actually an investigator with the agency’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit, sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker said.
Deputies arrested Bowling when he arrived shortly after noon.
