Woman sprays gasoline on man who tried to steal her car at pump

A man looking to steal a woman’s car from a Rockdale County convenience store got more than he bargained for when his intended victim soaked him in gasoline at the pump, authorities said.

Deputies said a “slider crew” dropped a man off near a woman who was filling up her Dodge Charger on Wednesday at a BP gas station near Conyers. Security photos obtained by Channel 2 Action News appear to show the man sneak up to the car and get inside unnoticed.

“She didn’t see him until he was actually in the driver’s seat and attempted to pull off in the vehicle,” Rockdale sheriff’s Deputy Lee Thomas told the news station.

Once the woman realized what was happening, she turned the nozzle on the man sitting in her driver’s seat and sprayed him with gasoline, police said.

The move worked, and footage shows the man getting out of the car and running away.

“It was like a movie. I didn’t realize it was actually happening,” said one witness who was at the gas station with his son at the time. “I was looking, and I heard the car revving up and the next thing I know, he jumped out of the car and he started running.”

Deputies said the man was picked up by the same people he arrived with and caution the crew may try to strike again.

Anyone who recognizes the man or knows his whereabouts is asked to contact the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.
