An Athens woman was indicted July 10 for allegedly using a box cutter to slice open her boyfriend’s stomach during a domestic dispute, authorities confirmed.

Kiara Nicole Gresham, 24, was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery after the incident on April 8, according to an Athens-Clarke County police incident report. It took place at the couple’s Fourth Street Village apartment.

The 26-year-old man’s wound was so large and deep that his intestines were exposed, the report said.

Gresham was not immediately arrested following the incident due to denials that the assault had occurred by her boyfriend, but a police investigation led to her arrest on June 8.

She was released on an $8,000 bond a week later, police confirmed. Her next court date is Aug. 8 for arraignment.
