More charges were filed against a Bartow County woman in connection with a deadly crash last year that killed a Marietta man who was a passenger in her car, authorities said.

Darla Ann Smith of unincorporated Acworth now faces four charges, including first-degree homicide by vehicle, reckless driving and improper lane, after a Sept. 21 crash killed 24-year-old Beau Johnson, the Georgia State Patrol said. Smith was previously charged only with DUI.

The wreck happened on Glade Road near Apache Drive just before 3 a.m., according to a GSP incident report. GSP said Smith’s BMW struck a dog while trying to avoid it. The car then crashed into a power pole before catching on fire.

Smith, who was 22 at the time, escaped with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, the GSP said.

Johnson was trapped inside the vehicle and died at the scene.

Smith was booked into the Bartow County Jail on Friday and bonded out Monday on a $6,550 bond, according to jail records.
