A woman and her dog were injured Wednesday afternoon after unknowingly walking into a shootout in southwest Atlanta, police said.
Officers responded to the 700 block of Formwalt Street about 5:45 p.m. after getting calls about a woman being shot, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown said.
“Upon arrival, officers located a female who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound in the arm,” she said. “Officers also located a dog that had been shot.”
According to police, two men were shooting at each other when the woman and her dog got caught in the crossfire. She was taken to the hospital and animal control officers were notified about the injured dog. Their conditions weren’t immediately available Wednesday evening.
The two men who exchanged gunfire fled the scene before police arrived, officers said.
The investigation is ongoing.
