A woman died Thursday after the car she was driving was hit by an SUV in Cherokee County, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Ruth Rose, 80, of Canton, received “extensive injuries” in the crash on East Cherokee Drive at Lingefelt Lane, Sgt. Marianne Kelley said in a news release.

Rose was taken to a hospital after the crash, which happened about 5:15 p.m., Kelley said.

Corey Smith, 31, of Canton, was the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe that hit Rose’s Toyota Camry, according to the release.

Sheriff’s officials are investigating the crash.
