A woman was in critical condition after being shot in her car during a robbery attempt at a DeKalb County apartment complex early Friday morning.
The woman, who was driving a red Mercedes, and a woman passenger, entered the Redan Cove Apartments on Redan Road at about 3 a.m., and were approached by two men on foot, DeKalb County Police spokesman Major S. R. Fore said.
One of the two men went to the driver’s side and the other man went to the passenger’s side. They opened the doors and each pointed a handgun at the women and demanded money. The driver then put the car in reverse and attempted to back out and leave the area, but the man on the driver’s side fired a shot and hit the driver.
Wounded, she managed to drive out of the apartment complex and onto Redan Road where she pulled off the road. The car was seen by a police officer who stopped to check on the women and was told what had happened.
The driver was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Police continue to investigate, Fore said.
