A 24-year-old woman is facing vehicular homicide, DUI and other charges in connection with a Barrow County crash that killed two people and seriously injured another, authorities said.

Meghan Caldwell, 24, of Loganville, was alone when she ran a stop light on Highway 316 in the predawn hours of March 19, Capt. Matt Guthas, a spokesman for the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, said in a news release.

Her 2012 Kia Sorrento collided with the driver’s side of a 2004 Ford Mustang as it traveled north on Patrick Mill Road, crossing Highway 316.

Caldwell was taken to the hospital, but released about six hours later, Guthas said.

The driver of the Mustang, Cathy Moore, 41, of Flowery Branch, and passenger Bradley Atha, 36, of Dacula, died at the scene, Guthas said. An ambulance took the third passenger to the hospital for treatment, where he remained Monday in unknown condition.

Investigators on the scene determined that Caldwell was driving under influence and arrested her.

She is charged with serious injury by motor vehicle, driving under the influence, two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree and a red light violation, Guthas said.
