A woman believed to be in her early 20s was found dead inside a burning home in Haralson County on Thursday morning, authorities said.

Around 6:10 a.m., Haralson County firefighters responded to a house fire on Gillette Road near Tallapoosa, Fire Chief Brian Walker told Channel 2 Action News.

Two adults, a 5-month-old and a 4-year-old were also trapped in the home and were able to escape before firefighters arrived, Walker said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Channel 2 Action News learned the officer was shot in the facial area, but was able to return fire. The suspect was killed.
