WATCH: Suspect fires shots at NE Atlanta home before breaking in, police say

Home surveillance video captured a man opening fire while trying to break into a northeast Atlanta house.

Surveillance video captured the moments an alleged trespasser, who was struggling to break into a home, opened fire on a house in northeast Atlanta on Saturday.

And that was just the beginning of the suspect’s night, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The video, obtained by Channel 2, appears to show James Anthony Powell, 27, of Atlanta, fire at least four shots at the home on Lindbergh Drive, shattering the door’s glass. He is then allegedly seen reaching through the broken glass to unlock the door and enter the house.

Carlos Diaz, the homeowner, told the news station he was out with friends at the time of the robbery, which occurred about 1 a.m.

“Those bullets could have gone anywhere,” Diaz said. “If I had been sleeping or something like that, who knows what could have happened.”

Atlanta police told Channel 2 the suspect then tried to rob another home in the same neighborhood by smashing a window with his head — while he was naked.

That homeowner told the news station he was on his couch watching television when he saw the top of a man’s head pop through the window at his home on Cheshire Bridge Road.

“I jumped up, got my phone, got my big flashlight and I started yelling at him to get the hell out of my house,” the homeowner, whom Channel 2 didn’t identify, said.

Police told Channel 2 they found Powell naked and with a large cut on his nose when they arrested him.

Powell faces charges of criminal trespass, possession of a firearm during a felony, reckless conduct and first-degree burglary, jail records show.

He remains in the Fulton County Jail without bond, according to jail records.
