Victim in shooting outside Clayton County bar was a bystander, police say

A 25-year-old Jonesboro man was shot and killed Wednesday in Clayton County.

A 25-year-old man shot to death outside a Clayton County restaurant and lounge was a bystander to the incident, police said Thursday.

Officers found Curtis Lamar Wright of Jonesboro unresponsive early Wednesday outside the IceBar Lounge and Restaurant on West Fayetteville Road, Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

“Wright is not believed to have been an active participant in the altercation inside/outside of the location when he was shot,” Marbury said Thursday in an emailed statement.

The shooting happened after a verbal altercation turned physical inside the restaurant, according to police.

“After being involved in a physical altercation inside of the location,” Marbury said, “several of the involved parties went out into the parking lot and shortly thereafter, several shots were fired.”

No suspect has been identified. Authorities are asking people who may have information about or cellphone video of the shooting to contact police.
