A man will spend the rest of his natural life in prison after a jury convicted him in a deadly drug deal in southwest Atlanta.

Jonathan Scott, 40, of Atlanta, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in Gerald Daniels III shooting death, Fulton County District Attorney spokesman Dontaye Carter said.

Daniels, 24, was found dead Feb. 17, 2016 on the floor of his Hidden Village Apartment from four gunshot wounds to the torso and one to the head.

Scott went to Daniels’ apartment to purchase $35 in marijuana, Carter said. Daniels had been playing video games when Scott came back and claimed Daniels shorted him.

Daniels weighed the marijuana – in plain view – to show the amount was correct.

But Scott pointed a gun at him and demanded more money.

Officials said when Daniels didn’t move fast enough, Scott shot him at least five times and fled the scene.

A 17-year-old inside the home witnessed the shooting and told a school resource officer what he saw the next day.

Other witnesses were also able to identify Scott as Daniels’s shooter from a photo lineup.

In addition to murder, Scott was also convicted on battery, aggravated assault, drug and weapons charges.
