Student allegedly took knife to Midtown charter school, threatened 10-year-old

Channel 2's Justin Wilfon reports.

A student is accused of taking a pocketknife to a charter school in Midtown, officials said.

The mother of a 10-year-old boy at the school told Channel 2 Action News that the student threatened her son with the knife at The Kindezi School last Friday. She said the student, whose age was not provided, had been bullying her child for months.

“He’s been picking fights, saying he’s going to fight (my son),” the woman, who asked Channel 2 to remain anonymous, said. “He’s afraid ... he’s very afraid. He’s terrified.”

She claimed that school leaders ignored her prior complaints about the boy’s alleged behavior toward her son, saying that what happened last Friday could have been prevented.

“He brought a pocketknife to school (and) threatened to kill and stab my son and another student,” she said.

A school spokesperson provided Channel 2 with a statement on the incident that said, in part: “The safety of our students and teachers is our first priority. The student who brought the pocketknife is receiving consequences in line with our Code of Conduct.”

The mother said she’s pulling her son from the school as a result of this incident.
