A driver attempting to inspect his broken-down vehicle was struck and killed by a passing truck early Saturday on I-75 South near Cleveland Avenue.

Atlanta police received a call about a person lying on the side of the interstate around 6:30 a.m. and arrived to find a man dead, Officer John Chafee told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Findings from a preliminary investigation indicated the victim’s hood was up and he was standing in front of the vehicle when a box truck slammed into the man and his vehicle.

The victim’s name was not immediately available. Police said the driver of the box truck remained at the scene.

The accident is under investigation, and no charges have been filed, Chafee said.

Motorists are urged to dial 511 for a HERO unit when they have a vehicle breakdown or wreck on the interstate.
