Seven people are in police custody after a double shooting and hours-long standoff in northwest Atlanta early Tuesday morning.
A teenage girl and a man were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after they were shot by an air rifle at a home on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard, the Atlanta Police Department said.
The girl was hit in the upper torso and the man was struck in the ankle, police said. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
When officers arrived on scene about 1:30 a.m., the victims said they were shot by two men who then fled into another home on the street.
“Officers observed individuals moving inside the home and attempted to get someone to answer the door,” police said in a statement. “Upon knocking and awaiting a response, no one answered the door but people were observed moving around inside the home.”
Police were stationed outside of the house until 4:30 a.m., when seven people came outside and were taken into custody “for interviewing and subsequent prosecution,” the department said.
Police have not identified them or indicated if charges have been filed against them. According to Channel 2 Action News, they ranged from 14 to 24 years old.
Investigators searched the home and found a high-powered pellet rifle hidden inside, police said.
