Atlanta police are searching for the person who shot and killed a teenage woman during a gun battle in the parking lot of a southwest Atlanta apartment complex.

Just before 1:15 a.m. Thursday, police went to the Deerfield Gardens Apartment Homes in the 2900 block of Campbellton Road and found the woman, identified as Keosha Tinch of Decatur, with a gunshot wound to the head, police spokesman Donald Hannah said.

Tinch was in the back seat of an SUV. Police interviewed the driver and another passenger who were in the SUV with the woman.

They told police they went to the gated complex to meet someone, according to Channel 2 Action News. That person started shooting at them and there was an exchange of gunfire, Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton told the television station.

The SUV collided with three parked cars during the incident, Hannah said.

No one else was injured during the shootout and collision. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the shooting.

Police have not released a description of the shooter.
