A group of men trying to steal an iPhone 5 in Clayton County got more than they bargained for, Channel 2 Action News reported.
A mom and her son who were looking to sell their Apple smart phone went to meet the prospective buyer after making arrangements online, Channel 2 said. Police say the buyer turned out to be three robbers.
One of the would-be bandits jumped into the victims’ car with his gun, demanding the phone and the money of the mother.
Police said the woman’s son and his girlfriend were inside the QuikTrip convenient store and returned to the mother’s car to see the robbery going on, Channel 2 said.
As the men returned to their own car to escape, police say, the son pulled his own handgun and fired off roughly 15 shots.
“He began shooting at the perpetrators,” Jonesboro Police Chief Franklin Allen told Channel 2. “The vehicle was struck (at least) two times, and a short distance from the QuikTrip … the vehicle wrecked.”
At least two of the men tried to flee on foot, but all three were caught by police, Channel 2 reports.
No one was injured, and charges are pending.
