A man was found lying dead in the middle of a DeKalb County cul-de-sac Sunday afternoon after neighbors heard gunshots and cars peeling out of the neighborhood.

One witness said he heard five or six gunshots and a loud bang as at least two cars sped away from Woodland Cove, according to a police report obtained Thursday by AJC.com. When he came outside, his mailbox and a neighbor’s were on the ground.

He then saw the body in the middle of the street. Witnesses told officers they had never seen the man around the neighborhood, located off Flakes Mill Road in the southern part of the county.

The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Jordan Gratton, police confirmed.

Officers responding to the scene just before 5 p.m. Sunday found Gratton unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Nine shell casings scattered around the cul-de-sac were recovered, according to the report.

Another witness told police she looked out her window to see a man in a green jumpsuit get into a gray Ford mustang and speed away. That vehicle did not hit the mailboxes, leading the woman to believe another vehicle was involved, police said in the report.

The Ford was found abandoned a block away a short time later.

The motive behind the deadly shooting is still under investigation.
