Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a Mableton trailer park after friends of the victim flagged down a Cobb County police officer for help.

They were trying to get the man to a hospital early Saturday morning when they spotted the officer’s car at a QuikTrip on Mableton Parkway, according to Cobb police. The officer requested assistance from an emergency medical service.

The victim, identified by police as 24-year-old Roman Orlando Mejia-Nunez of Austell, later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Investigators determined that Mejia-Nunez was shot about 12:15 a.m. at the Waverly Mobile Home Park on Plantation Hill Road, police spokeswoman Sydney Melton said. The trailer park is located off Discovery Boulevard, about a mile from the QuikTrip where authorities got involved.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, Melton said. No further details about the shooting have been released.
