A Cobb County man got a 10-year prison term after he was convicted of shooting another man outside a barbershop, a prosecutors’ spokeswoman said.

Jason Lamont Townes, 41, of Marietta, was convicted Friday in the July 9, 2016, incident in Marietta, Kim Isaza said.

Townes and the victim were fighting outside a barbershop in the 1100 block of Powder Springs Street, Isaza said.

“When people from the barbershop came outside and broke up the fight, Townes pulled a .45 caliber handgun from his waistband,” Isaza said. “The victim attempted to run, but Townes chased him and shot him through the leg.”

Townes was convicted of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to Isaza.

“This defendant shot the victim from behind as he ran away from him, in a busy parking lot, in broad daylight,” prosecutor Rachel Hines said. “He had absolutely no regard for the safety of others.”

Townes will be on probation for 10 years after he is released from prison.
