A Florida man is accused of fatally shooting an Acworth man during an argument in Cherokee County Wednesday afternoon. And the suspect’s two children were in a car right beside him during the shooting, a Cherokee sheriff’s spokesman said Thursday.

The children are now with their mother, who was not at the scene at the time of the shooting, Lt. Jay Baker told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Witnesses said Alexander Walkine, 28, of Tampa, shot 43-year-old Doug Eriquezzo during the argument in the 5700 block of Bells Ferry Road, Baker said.

During the argument, Walkine allegedly walked to his vehicle, which contained his 6-year-old child and 5-month-old baby, pulled out a handgun and shot Eriquezzo twice, Baker said.

Deputies found the wounded Eriquezzo lying in a parking lot with two gunshot wounds about 5:15 p.m., Baker said. A .45 caliber handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was located at the scene.

Eriquezzo was taken with serious injuries to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.

Detectives arrested Walkine without incident on multiple charges, including murder, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, cruelty to children in the third degree, aggravated battery and aggravated assault. He is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center being held without bond.
