After a 63-year-old burglary suspect was caught in the act by a Dawson County homeowner, deputies were able to chase him down on Ga. 400, authorities said.
Arthur Richard Ardeneaux of Gainesville faces 13 charges after the thwarted burglary attempt and police chase last Thursday, the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office said.
About 3:45 p.m., a homeowner responded to his house off Henry Grady Highway after his alarm system was triggered, the sheriff’s office said. The homeowner, armed with a gun, tried to detain the would-be burglar but the suspect escaped.
When deputies arrived at the scene, Ardeneaux fled onto Ga. 400 South, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies pursued his vehicle until the suspect lost control and crashed at the intersection of Ga. 400 and Harmony Church Road.
Ardeneaux was detained at the scene and the items he was able to steal from the house were also seized, deputies. He’s charged with first-degree burglary, fleeing police and obstruction, as well as several driving violations, according to Dawson County jail records.
As of Thursday evening, he remained in jail on a $25,200 bond.
