It’s always a pain when you leave your cellphone behind and have to return to get it.

But if you’re a registered sex offender on probation for a child porn conviction, it can be criminal to forget your phone if it contains more images of suspected child pornography.

Carl Alfred Iverson, 85, was sentenced to 10 years in April for computer pornography, but allowed to serve only 30 days in jail, according to Cobb County Superior Court records. His conviction put him on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry, and during his probation, Iverson’s Internet use was to be restricted to when he paid bills under supervision.

But on Sept. 23, Iverson, who is homeless, left his phone inside a Marietta Starbucks, his arrest warrant states. Employees looked at the phone to find the owner’s contact information, but also found pornographic images and called police, the warrant states.

The next day, Iverson allegedly returned to pick up his phone. But instead, he was interviewed by officers.

“In a videotaped interview, said accused described his phone he had lost and admitted it contained pornography,” Iverson’s warrant states.

Police obtained and executed a search warrant on the phone and found eight images of child porn, including one with a 6-year-old child. Iverson was arrested and charged with eight counts of sexual exploitation of children, arrest records showed. He was being held without bond Tuesday night in the Cobb County jail.
