It’s been a soggy past few days, continuing what’s been a wet start to the year for Georgia.
However, this weekend will be different, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burn said.
The state will get a chance to dry out after picking up another 2 to 2½ inches of rain over the last couple of days, he said. So far in 2020, nearly 8 inches of rain has been accumulated at the Atlanta airport, which is more than double seasonal norms.

Saturday morning started off chilly though, with a low of 37 degrees. While that lines up with average temperatures this time of year, the afternoon high of 48 degrees will be about five degrees cooler than normal, Burns said.
“By lunch hour, we’re still at only 43 degrees, so it’ll be a cool day,” he said.
The cooler air is thanks to the cold front that just moved through the state, bringing all that rain, he said. Georgia will be between cold fronts this weekend, meaning it’ll be dry but chilly outside.
When it’s dry, construction crews try to make the most of it, which is why the Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects scheduled for Saturday.
From 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, a right lane of I-285 North will be blocked for roadwork at I-20 in Fulton County, GDOT said. There will also be traffic pacing both days along Abernathy Road between Ga. 400 and Barfield Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Clouds will be spotty Saturday, but they will begin to thicken Sunday morning as the next cold front approaches, Burns said.
"We begin (Sunday) with a lot of cloud cover here with a cold front approaching from the west," he said.
"Most of the day Sunday is dry ... but by (11 p.m.), the rain starts to roll in."
Most of the rain will fall overnight, but there is a 40% chance of lingering showers during the morning hours, which could affect the first morning commute of the new work week, Burns said.
