A 25-year-old Roswell woman pleaded guilty to aggravated stalking for harassing an actor from “The Walking Dead” and his wife, the Fulton County District Attorney said Tuesday.
Kathryn Boykin was sentenced to 10 years on probation, must not have any contact with actor Daniel May or his family, and is prohibited from using the Internet, DA Paul Howard’s office said. Boykin must also maintain her mental health medication and treatment as part of her sentence.
According to investigators, Boykin’s fascination with May began in December 2006 after attending one of his performances, and she began to harass May and his wife, mostly via the Internet and social media. Boykin created several social media accounts that she used to falsely accuse May of a variety of crimes or spread lies about the couple, the DA’s office said.
Daniel May appeared in a seven episodes during season three of the popular AMC show, but his character was killed at the end of the season.
Boykin also posted harassing statements on the business website and on other third-party websites and sent electronic messages to the couple that they largely ignored. The victims responded one time asking Boykin to “Stop.” When she failed to cease communication with the Mays, the couple contacted police and eventually obtained protective orders against the defendant, according to prosecutors.
Then on Dec. 21, 2013, Boykin appeared outside Synchronicity Theatre on Peachtree Street, run by May’s wife, Rachel, holding a sign that read “Shut Down Synchronicity” and other disparaging remarks. Boykin was in violation of a permanent protective order that had been issued five months earlier requiring her to stay away from the couple, the DA’s office said.
Boykin was arrested Dec. 27, 2013, and booked into the Fulton County jail. She was released Jan. 26, 2014, booking records showed.
