A Roswell man brought a bag of Skittles and two condoms to what he thought would be a sexual encounter with an 11-year-old girl, federal prosecutors said.
Devin Herman, 22, will spend 10 years in prison and another five on supervised release after arranging to have sex with a child in February, the Department of Justice said Thursday in a news release.
According to prosecutors, Herman responded to an online advertisement posted by an undercover FBI agent during a child sex predator sting. In the ad, the agent posed as the child’s mother and said they were looking for someone to “teach” their daughter.
Over the next three days, Herman and the undercover agent exchanged multiple messages and eventually, he agreed to meet the girl for sex, authorities said.
During their conversations, Herman told the agent the encounter “sounds like it’d be a fun time,” elaborating about what he would do to the girl.
“During the chats, there were also times where Herman believed he was chatting directly with the 11-year-old girl, and he asked the child what she liked and what she wanted him to teach her,” prosecutors said.
He was arrested by federal agents after showing up to a location in Alpharetta where they agreed to meet for sex, authorities said.
Prosecutors said during his chats with the undercover agent, Herman was told the candy would make the girl feel more “comfortable” about the encounter.
In August, he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. He was recently sentenced to a decade behind bars.
“The facts of this case are shocking but unfortunately all to common,” FBI agent Chris Hacker said in the release. “This sentencing sends a message to Herman and any other predators that the FBI will go to any length, within the constraints of the U.S. Constitution, to bring you to justice.”
